Reconstruction Era National Historical Park to Celebrate National Junior Ranger Day and National Poetry Month with a Nature Walk at Penn Center National Historic Landmark District

BEAUFORT, SC- Reconstruction Era National Historical Park invites the public to attend a free nature hike to celebrate both National Poetry Month and National Junior Ranger Day on Saturday April 27 at 11 am. The program will begin at Darrah Hall and last around 1-hour, and cover approximately 1-mile of walking. 

Join us for a guided nature walk along Caper’s Creek Nature Trail to immerse yourself in the natural environment of the Lowcountry. Arrive early to grab your own Jr. Ranger hat and badge before exploring out in nature with park staff and volunteers to ponder a nature-focused poetry prompt. Binoculars and worksheets will be provided so that participants can observe and capture inspiration from the landscape, and to contribute to the park’s temporary poetry exhibit within Darrah Hall. Closed toed shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellant are strongly encouraged. Restrooms and a water foundation are available at Darrah Hall.    

During the National Poetry Month of April, the National Park Service has collaborated with U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limon to launch “You Are Here” - an anthology of Nature Poems and Poetry Installations in National Parks.
