TRIANGLE, Va. — The National Park Service (NPS) is offering a 10-year concessions opportunity for the Prince William Forest RV Park. The selected business will provide exclusive campground services and amenities to visitors at the 70-site RV campground, which offers convenient access to Prince William Forest Park and the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 294,916 visitors to Prince William Forest Park in 2022 spent $19.1 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 222 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $27 million.
For visitor safety during a wastewater system improvement project, Prince William Forest Park will close the orienteering course from June 20 through October 27.
Prince William Forest Park will begin a three-month pilot for cashless entrance fee collection starting May 1. All park visitors are required to have an entrance pass upon entering Prince William Forest Park.

Most forests in eastern United States national parks are at risk due to browsing by overabundant white-tailed deer and crowding by invasive plants, according to a National Park Service (NPS) study published in the journal Ecological Applications.

National Park Service (NPS) and partner historians presented their findings from the African American Outdoor Recreation and Segregation in Virginia Parks, 1916-1965 studies on March 31 at the Organization of American Historians conference in Los Angeles. These two studies, which examine histories of institutional segregation, loss and tragedy, but also of joy and resilience associated with African American outdoor recreation, anchored the panel's discussion on how the stories of recreational sites can enrich public understandings of racial segregation and Black freedom struggles in America’s past and present.
The National Park Service is planning on conducting a prescribed fire in Prince William Forest Park on March 16, 2023 or sometime before the end of March, depending on weather conditions. The prescribed fire will consist of burning two sections of forest near the Oak Ridge Campground, approximately 105 acres.
Prince William Forest Park, a unit of the National Park System, will be hosting a Youth Conservation Corp (YCC) work team during the summer of 2023. For over 25 years, youth from the area have worked on Park resources such as trails, historic buildings, and landscapes by helping to rehabilitate historic cabins and perform cyclic maintenance.
The National Park Service will begin making wastewater system improvements at Prince William Forest Park’s campgrounds this summer, which will require periodic closures at Turkey Run Ridge Group Campground and Oak Ridge Campground as well as an extended closure of Cabin Camp 3.
Prince William Forest Park would like to notify the public of an adverse effect to potential historic resources in the park’s RV campground, as required by 36 CFR § 800.6(a)(4).
