Natural History: The Pine Siskin feeds primarily on seeds and plant parts, but may also eat insects. It tends to take cover in trees but nests in dense foliage. It breeds from April to September. General Distribution: In the Presidio, this bird is found in all forests and in ornamental plants. Frequency: This species is common in the spring and summer and abundant in the fall and winter seasons. Identifying Characteristics: This bird's identifying characteristics are its brown streaking and forked tail. It shows a touch of yellow in its wings and tail. |
