At noon, April 6, General Grant's struggling right wing, led by Gernerals William T. Sherman and John McClernand, counterattacked southward one-half mile from Jones Field to briefly recapture this sector. Severe fighting raged along this front until the depleted Federal ranks retired fighting at 2 pm.
