Explore, Play, Refresh. Overview. 266 words. 3 paragraphs. A three-by-four foot vertical panel, mounted to the sidewalk to the left of the Welcome exhibit explores the many options for visitors to explore. The top image depicts families relaxing, playing on the shore, and floating in the river with dunes rising in the distance. The introductory text reads: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore offers unparalleled opportunities to experience nature's beauty, connect with this region's past, and relax and recreate with family or friends. Consider climbing the dunes, hiking one of the lakeshore's many trails, driving a scenic road, or visiting a historic site such as Port Onedia Rural Historic District, the lighthouse on South Manitou Island, or Glen Haven Historic Village. The lakeshore also offers opportunities to camp, boat, fish, and birdwatch.Inset in the panel is a color photo of visitors walking up a pathway towards a small white building with a red roof. Behind it is a small round structure and just a bit beyond is a tall white lighthouse. On the right side of the panel is a color photo of a bright blue and black feathered bird perched on a branch. At the bottom of the panel is a large image of a sandy dune rising out of a flat grassy area. Dozens of visitors picnic and relax on the grass, while others climb the dune.
