The machine and locksmith shop occupied a building on the backside of the woolen mill, adjacent to the millwright's shop. The metal workers serviced and repaired metal components of the mill along with farm equipment. They also made objects for general use, such as locks. Their distinctive German-style locks, described as "peculiarly large," can be found in buildings throughout the Amana Colonies today.
