Scenic View/Photo Spot

This is a high elevation hike and can be dangerous in winter and extreme weather.

The name "Charlies Bunion" describes a unique rock formation that was exposed by an early 1900s wildfire and subsequent erosion. The name pays homage to a local Appalachian Trail supervisor, Charlie Conner, who hiked the trail in the 1920s wearing worn-out shoes, which allegedly contributed to a painful bunion on his foot.

The area's stunning beauty, exemplified by landmarks like Charlies Bunion, played a crucial role in advocating for the preservation of this natural treasure.
