Built in 1870, this officers duplex was originally intended to serve as the commanding officers quarters. Before construction had been completed, the commanding officer at the time decided to remain in his current quarters, so the building was altered to a duplex. This was accomplished by building a partition wall to split the house in half. While this did succeed in making a duplex, the central staircase became extremely narrow which you can still experience today.Mrs. Thomas Sandercock purchased this building in 1890 and operated a post office from the house from that time until 1902. The family would occupy this building until it was purchased by the state of Wyoming in 1937.
