Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park has one of the greatest collections of Civil War era seacoast or siege artillery in the United States. Representing some of the rarest cannon in the world, the collection illustrates the technological innovations of the Civil War. The cannon that make up Cannon Row are some of the largest and most unique within the park's collection.
Some of the cannon were used during the Civil War on Sullivan's Island while others were brought to the island after the Civil War to rebuild coastal defenses. The United States or the Confederate States produced all eight artillery pieces before or during the Civil War.
