    This conceptual plan presents the Burns Paiute Tribe’s vision for the development of its Old Camp Historic Park, with the intention to deepen the Tribe’s connection to this important place and expand and enhance the Tribe’s existing RV Park at Old Camp as a destination for visitors to learn about the Burns Paiute People.

    The Anza Trail Cultural History Park is a case study for making cultural history accessible using universal design principles. The park is a youth-designed space for people of all ages and abilities serves as a public park as well as an outdoor classroom for the Arizona School for the Deaf and the Blind. Features of the park include a plaza lined with native plants and an accessible pathway with interactive, accessible exhibits.

    DeRidder, Louisiana: West Park Master Plan

    The hurricanes that struck DeRidder, LA in 2020, failed to diminish the resiliency of its residents and leaders. In response to the damage wrought by Laura and Delta, particularly the devastation of West Park, the City of DeRidder, with assistance from the National Park Service - Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program, and Baton Rouge’s CARBO Landscape Architecture Firm, developed a master plan that will enhance this important community and regional resource.

    The National Park Service announced the selection of seven new communities and partners across the southeast to receive expert consultation from the NPS to help spur local recreation, conservation and economic development opportunities. The recipients —located in FL, GA, KY, LA, SC, and TN — were selected through a competitive process and will receive assistance to help make their rivers, trails, greenways and open spaces vital, life-enhancing parts of their communities.

    Blue River Park: Wildfire Recovery Master Plan

    In January of 2021, the University of Oregon’s Landscape Architecture Program offered to help redesign Blue River Park, and a concept plan was soon drafted. In 2022, the National Park Service – Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program (NPS-RTCA), funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), was recruited to help with community outreach efforts. Based on input from community members and other stakeholders, a recovery master plan was finalized.

    The National Park Service - Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program (NPS-RTCA) announced the selection of nine new communities and partners across the South Atlantic-Gulf Region to receive expert NPS consultation to help spur local recreation, conservation and economic development opportunities.

    Transforming a Neighborhood Park

    From a filled-in swimming pool in the 1960s, to a revitalized park, Oregon’s DC Latourette Park has been transformed into a valued community space. The National Park Service - Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program collaborated with the community to create a revitalization plan.

    North Beach Eco Park

    With a goal to expand recreational and educational opportunities, the city of Corpus Christi, Texas recently began implementing plans for a 30-acre eco and birding park in North Beach that will cater to both their human and avian visitors. In 2019, the city requested The National Park Service - Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program to assist with the park’s design and organizational development for community partners.

    From Blighted Lands to Community Parks and Trails

    In 2000, Groundwork Lawrence facilitated a community planning effort that became the Spicket River Greenway. Today, the Spicket River Greenway consists of 3.5 miles of new and restored parks and trails that connect multiple neighborhoods, schools and community centers.

    The Anza Cultural History Park is a new park in Tucson, Arizona. Adjacent to the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, the park is designed to be accessible and enjoyed by everyone, including persons with disabilities of sight, hearing or mobility. The National Park Service – Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program (NPS-RTCA) collaborated with the school on design concepts and infrastructure improvements for the park.
