HWY 101 Closure at Hoh River Bridge

WSDOT Temporarily Closes Hoh Bridge to All Traffic

In September and October of 2026, the Washington State Department of Transportation will need to close the Hoh River Bridge on Highway 101 to all traffic for the following dates:

Overnight closures:

• 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each night from Monday, Sept. 14 to Tuesday, Sept. 22

Continous, six-day closures:
Hwy 101 will be closed for 6 consecutive days, beginning at 5am Thursday and reopening at 5pm on Tuesday, on the following dates:

• 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29

• 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 to noon Tuesday, Oct. 6

• 5 a.m. Thursday Oct. 8 to noon Tuesday, Oct. 13

The 95-year-old bridge is not wide enough to create a work zone and keep one travel lane open. After each six-day closure, the bridge will be inspected prior to reopening to single-lane alternating traffic.

There is no alternative route or detour across the Hoh River.

Where is the closure, and will it affect my trip?

The closure is located on Highway 101, south of Forks, Washington and the Hoh Rain Forest (see graphic). The Hoh Rain Forest will remain accessible from Forks throughout construction.

During scheduled closures, you will not be able drive from any point north of the bridge to any point south of the closure via Highway 101. Taking alternate routes around the east side of the Olympic Peninsula will add at least four hours to travel times.

• Sol Duc River Valley
• Lake Ozette
• Forks, WA
• Mora coastal area
• Hoh Rainforest

South of the closure:

• Kalaloch coastal area
• Queets Rainforest
• Quinault Rainforest
• Amanda Park, WA
• Ocean Shores, WA
• Aberdeen, WA
