Monocacy National Battlefield protects the habitat of our heritage.

There are many different types of habitats around the park including grass meadows, fencerows and treelines, deep woods areas, agricultural fields, and river and streamside forest environments. These diverse habitats provide homes for species such as songbirds, white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, red-backed salamanders, northern copperhead snakes, eastern box turtles, and bald eagles – to name a few.

  Amphibians

  The battlefield is home to many different species of frogs, toads, and other amphibians.

  Birds

  The battlefield provides important habitat for a variety of bird species.

• 

  Fish

  Thirty-six species of fish have been found within the battlefields freshwater streams and the Monocacy River.

• 

  Mammals

  A total of 34 different species of mammals have been known to inhabit the park.

• 

  Reptiles

  The diverse landscape of Monocacy National Battlefield provides excellent habitat for a wide range of reptiles.
