The sawmill on North Manitou Island is near the village and dock. It is not open for tours, but walk around the building and visualize what it would have been like when the lumber business was in full swing.

Today the island gets its power from an array of photovoltaic cells which produce electricity from the sun. An array of batteries provide electrical storage for nights and cloudy days. The array is located between the dock and the sawmill.

There are several cottages in the village on North Manitou Island, which bring you back to the days when this island was used as a vacation and hunting resort.

The Swenson Barn is one of the few landmarks on the west side of North Manitou Island. It marks the location of the Swenson farm and is close to the old village of Crescent. The pilings from the old dock are still visible. This area is a favorite place for backpackers to camp.
