Wilderness Troop Movement Maps

Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park

This collection of maps shows troop movements at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House during the American Civil War. The battle took place from May 5-6, 1864. The Battle of the Wilderness was the first major engagement in the Overland Campaign. United States General Ulysses S. Grant had begun marching the US forces south when Confederate forces under command of General Robert E. Lee attempted to halt them in the region known as the Wilderness of Spotsylvania County.
