The bald eagle nest in the Pinery Narrows is the first successful one ever documented in Cuyahoga Valley. It has become a symbol of the Cuyahoga River's recovery. This album is a collection of eaglet photos showing each baby that has grown up here since 2007. We selected images that show eaglets at different ages and reveal a range of behaviors.

The image focuses on a brown eaglet fledgling who is perched on a thick branch that curves through the image like a sideways 'S'. The eaglet can be seen from a three-quarter view, looking towards the right edge of the image with its beak open. Sticking out of the beak slightly is the eaglet's pink tongue.

2007 First Fledgling on a Bran...

Sitting in a nest of thick brown branches is an adult bald eagle and its baby. In the center of the image is the adult which has their back turned to us, their head turned to the right so that the viewer can see the right side of the eagles head. To the left of the adult rests the baby eaglet whose small, fuzzy brown head is craning out of the nest, looking in the vague direction of the viewer.

A tall tree rises up in the midground of the image to the right, roughly two-thirds of the way width-wise from the left edge of the photo. Four branches can be seen coming off of the tree, two to the left and two to the right. Lower in the image, on the lower left branch, perches one of the eagles, facing the left edge of the image. Higher up in the tree, on the upper left branch, perches the second immature eagle, whose body is facing away from the viewer. Its head, however, is looking in the same direction as the eagle below it. Between both eagles, the moon can be clearly seen in the daylight far in the background.

This eagle fledgling grasps onto the end of a branch, wings flapping, looking in the direction of the viewer. A pale blue sky fills the background. The splayed wings of the fledgling eagle raise up slightly above its head and body, all of which is pictured above the branch which it sits on. Dipping below the branch, the eagle's tail feathers flare out.

2012 Eagle Fledgling

A young eagle takes its first flight. On the right, a branch stretches out from which the eagle was sitting just seconds before the image was taken. To the left of the branch, the young eagle spreads out its wings. The view of the eagle is from its left side, with its large, left wing being closer to the viewer of the photo, and its right wing - obscured by the left wing - is further back in space. The wings are raised high above the eagle's head. The eagle's head faces the left with its eyes looking forward. In a nearly perfectly horizontal line, the juvenile's body lunges forward with the yellow talons below, adjusting from the jump. Behind, the tail feathers splay out with the movement.

2013 Eaglet Fledgling's First ...

An eagle fledgling hangs upside-down from a tree branch. Its yellow talons are wrapped the brown branch to keep the fledgling from falling. The eagle's body stretches downward and its wings splay out on either side. Its wing and tail feathers both catch the sunlight that breaks through the green, summer leaves. The fledgling's head cranes downwards with its beak pointing straight down as though looking at something below.

2013 Gravity-Defying Eaglet

Two juvenile eagles are flying up in the sky. The shot is taken from below them, revealing the underside of their entire body. White feathers cover the area on the wings nearest to the eagles' bodies and more brown feathers begin to appear the further away they appear on the wing. They both look at each other, and the eagle on the left has its dark beak opened mid-way. The two are in the middle of play fighting in the sky.

Two juvenile eagles sit in their nest. The eagle to the left is lower in the image because of its stature, wherein the eagle is leaning forward slightly with its wings raised up, though its left wing is covered by the second juvenile perched to the right in the image. White feathers on the underside of the juvenile's wing are revealed, a stark contrast to its other brown feathers. The second juvenile sits upright with its wings at its side, its head raised high, and its chest pushed outward.

On one of the trees near the Station Road Bridge Trailhead sits an eagle nest made out of thick branches and sticks. In the center of the photo, the adult bald eagle flies out of its nest and begins its descent while its three babies watch from above in their nest.

2016 Eaglet Triplets Await the...

In this photo, two of the bald eaglets born in 2016 are the subject. To the left, one of the eaglets is returning to the nest with its brown wings spread wide, yellow talons outstretched in front of it to grasp land in the nest, and its razor-sharp beak open as though cawing. To the right and in the direction that the former eaglet is moving sits the second eaglet. The second eaglet is hunched over as it looks at its sibling. Its brown and white feathered wings are curled downward and raised above the eaglet's head, its beak also open as though it is calling out at the other eaglet. A myriad of green leaves fills the background of the image.

2016 Eaglets Causing a Ruckus ...

On the left, the adult stands in a relaxed position with its feathers down at its side and its head lowered to tear apart the prey. Slightly behind the mature eagle and to the right are two of the eaglets which share a bright red-orange piece of the fish between their beaks.

The two fledgling eaglets born in 2017 are perched along thick branches in a tree above Station Road Bridge Trailhead. On the right, one of the fledglings is slowly making its way down the branch by sidestepping to its left. The eaglet's wings are spread out to help keep balance, showing off the white feathers on the underside of its wings. The eaglet's head is looking downward. On the left of the photo - but on the right of the first eaglet - is a second fledgling who is calmly perched on a separate branch with its brown-feathered wings down at its side and its head directed towards its sibling.

2017 Eaglet Twins

Two juvenile eaglets are perched very close to one another in a tree, positioned above and below one another in the composition of the image. Both birds are positioned so that their heads are looking towards the right edge of the image, and their right sides are visible. The eaglet on top is hunched over and craning its head downward so that it is right next to the head of the bottom eaglet. The juvenile on top has opened its beak and is screeching directly into the face of its sibling, ruffling the feathers on its neck as it does so. Closing its eyes, the eaglet on the bottom leans slightly away from its sibling.
