Born along the St. Lawrence River, determined Harriet Colfax found herself far upstream along the treacherous coast of Southern Lake Michigan after moving to a young Michigan City in 1853. For 43 careful years she watched the rough frontier city blossom to a Duneland metropolis; she fearlessly maintained the harbor beacon as lighthouse keeper while enduring the ensuing hardships with her lifelong companion Ann Hartwell.

Norris Geyser Basin is one of the hottest and most acidic of Yellowstone's hydrothermal areas. It is outside of the most recent Yellowstone caldera, but inside the first and largest caldera. It sits on the intersection of three major faults and is a very active earthquake area.Each year, new hot springs and geysers appear while others become dormant. Martin James Barlow

M.J. Barlow married Annie McLendon on 27 May 1893 in Clarke County, Mississippi. Annie, born in March 1878 in Mississippi, was the daughter of homesteader Alfred McLendon, and his wife, Roseanna Porter (a.k.a. Cooley). In the 1900 census, M.J. Barlow is a minister, and his wife Annie is a farmer. Both are identified as renting farmland in Shubuta, Clarke, MS, and both are literate. They have three children, and the oldest one attends school and can read.

In October 2024, a small Uncrewed Aerial System (sUAS) module deployed from Acadia National Park to Blue Ridge Parkway in response to damage from Hurricane Helene as a post-tropical cyclone. The module's mission was to gather information quickly and safely related to damage at the park. The storm had devastated the area, prompting the entire 469 miles of roadway in Virginia and North Carolina to remain closed following the storm.

This urn was carved from a piece of a memorial honoring the victims of the USS Maine explosion in Havana Harbor. The original memorial was destroyed in a hurricane. The refashioned urn was given to President Calvin Coolidge when he visited Cuba in 1928. The urn depicts two figures representing the United States and Cuba joining hands over a depiction of the USS Maine sinking.

The trail is 2 miles (3.2 km) round trip. Meander along the shore of Florida Bay, watching for remnants of an outpost fishing village. Observe the effects of hurricanes Katrina and Wilma on the landscape. Begin at the Coastal Prairie Trailhead at the back of Loop "C" in the Flamingo Campground. Veer left at the trail junction to the bay. Not wheelchair accessible. Bicycles not allowed.
