In 1902, the first hospital in Annapolis opened on Cathedral Street. Its medical staff included Dr. William Bishop, the town’s leading African American physician. However, after Dr. Bishop’s death in 1904, the hospital no longer accepted Black physicians on staff. In 1910, a new hospital, built on the corner of Franklin and Cathedral, was open to all residents, but it had segregated wards and did not admit Black women for maternity care.

During the Japanese occupation of Guam, CHamoru were forced to build defenses on the beach, including the pillboxes and bunkers that can still be seen today, in preparation for the American invasion. That invasion came on July 21, 1944, W Day for Guam. While a simultaneous attack took place five miles south at Hågat, the Third Marine Division landed on the 2,500-yard Assan Beach, marking the start of the Battle of Guam.

Restrooms are in a separate building adjacent to the parking lot. The shuttle bus stop is also on the parking lot.

The West Auto Tour is approximately seven miles and follows the original Transcontinental railroad grade and allows visitors to experience what passengers would have encountered on their travels through Utah Territory. A glimpse of the Great Salt Lake, wide open spaces and the iconic "10 Miles in a Day" sign await the visitor. The tour begins seven miles west of the Visitor Center via Golden Spike Drive. The West Tour is closed seasonally from late November to early June.

William Jones joined the Continental Army at the outset of the American Revolution. He was stationed at the American Fort Schuyler/Stanwix during the Siege of 1777 and saw combat at the 1779 Battle of New Town. Despite having served well for three years, Jones eventually left the new United States for Canada, never returning to the original nation he sided with.
