Wilderness permits for the summer season – May 15 through October 15 – will be available at 7:00am on April 15, 2025. All permits can be reserved online at Recreation.gov or by contacting the Wilderness Infromation Center at OLYM_WIC@nps.gov or 360-565-2992. Due to expected high call volumes, emails are the best way to contact the center.  Park rangers at Mount Rainier National Park are encouraging visitors to review current weather forecasts and guidance for having a safe and enjoyable visit to the park. Several incidents in March demonstrate the potential hazards of high-elevation activities and the complexity of search and rescue operations in the park. Rescue is not guaranteed. On April 19, 2025, volunteers and Olympic National Park employees will remove marine debris from the park’s wild coastline as part of the Washington Coastal Cleanup effort. This year's cleanup will focus on beaches near Mora and Kalaloch. Interested volunteers can register online at Volunteer.gov by Saturday, April 6, at 11 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. The National Park Service (NPS) and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) are seeking public input on a proposed project that would reduce the risk of flooding and erosion to a segment of State Route 410 (SR 410) adjacent to the White River in Mount Rainier National Park. Solicitation for Proposals for a New Concession Contract to Operate Lodging, Food and Beverage, Retail, Campground, and Related Visitor Services within Lake Chelan National Recreation Area Mount Rainier National Park has changed its wilderness permit fee structure from a flat $20 per trip to $10 per person per night. A $6 fee for trips reserved through Recreation.gov remains unchanged.  The Hoh Rain Forest area of Olympic National Park is closed until the Upper Hoh Road is safe for travel. The Upper Hoh Road is maintained by Jefferson County and connects HWY 101 to the Olympic National Park boundary. Due to the low forecasted return of wild steelhead, the Queets River will temporarily close to sport fishing on December 16, 2024. Anglers can continue to catch hatchery steelhead in the Salmon River through February 28, 2025. The Queets River is expected to reopen to recreational angling on June 1, 2025. Hurricane Ridge winter operations will begin on November 29, 2024 in Olympic National Park. Weather permitting, the road will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through March 30, 2025 (closed December 25, Christmas Day). The area will also be open December 20-January 5, January 17-20, and February 14-17, 2025. The Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center will close for winter on December 1, 2024. Starting on March 1, 2025, the visitor center will be open 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The area's campground, trails and road will remain open throughout the winter. Mount Rainier National Park is seeking properties to lease for use by park employees for the spring, summer, and fall seasons (March to November) 2025.

 San Juan Island NHP Engaging with Coast Salish Tribes and Public on National Register Nomination. A multipurpose building used as an office, small workshop and equipment storage shop at Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve in Coupeville, WA on Whidbey Island was destroyed in an afternoon fire on July 19.  San Juan Island National Historical Park is celebrating a major anniversary  San Juan Island NHP is excited to announce the installation of new sculptural elements and its winter operating hours  Encampment Living History Weekend is back on August 6th and 7th on San Juan Island!  Sunday is the 125th anniversary of Seattle’s role in the Klondike Gold Rush – a transformational event commemorated by a unique national park.  San Juan Island NHP opened its long awaited American Camp Visitor Center today. Learn more about this six year project and why this is such a special place. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced the availability of a draft recovery plan for the island marble butterfly (Euchloe ausonides insulanus) and a 60-day public comment period.  Our American Camp Visitor Center Parking Lot will be closed from Sunday, June 5, 2022 until Friday, June 10, 2022. During this time our visitor center exhibits will begin installation.  Our park is proud to announce the continuation and expansion of a longterm collaboration with the local library.
