Isle Royale Reflection"The few weeks I spent on Isle Royale in 2005 were some of the most important moments for me in my path to becoming an artist. At the time I was still a student who was very deeply interested in political art and the ways in which visual arts can motivate discussion and reflection over current events. About the ArtistMeghan L. E. Kirkwood was an Isle Royale Artist-in-Residence from July 19th to August 3rd, 2005. She is an Assistant Professor at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Art at Washington University in St. Louis. She earned a B.A. from Grinnell College and a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design before completing her MFA in Studio Art at Tulane University. She has received numerous fellowships, including funding to participate in artist residencies through the National Park Service, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Lakeside Lab (Iowa). Kirkwood’s photography has been exhibited throughout the United States, in Europe, and South Africa.
