HistoryDavid Cope Elkinton (1915-2003) was the youngest child of Joseph Passmore Elkinton and Mary Bucknell Elkinton, born January 25, 1915. The Elkinton Family is a prominent Philadelphia Quaker family and their Collected Papers are located at the Swarthmore College Peace Collection dating back to the late 1800s. David C. Elkinton graduated from Haverford College in 1936 and became an accountant and cost analyst with the family firm, Philadelphia Quartz Company. He was also a Quaker activist who served on Friends Committees and participated in Friends Conferences. Mr. Elkinton's office was located in the Philadelphia Ledger Building overlooking the west end of the Independence Hall complex for over 30 yrs. He spent his lunch hour strolling the area during INHP's critical years of development. In 1994, he made a gift of his slides to the Independence National Historical Park’s archive.David C. Elkinton died July 2, 2003. In 2009, David’s son Steve donated additional slides. Scope and ContentDavid C.
