Mid-Atlantic Network Parks

The Mid-Atlantic Network (MIDN) conducts long-term monitoring to measure key indicators of ecological health, or "vital signs." Monitoring will help us all better understand the condition of park resources and provide early detection of potential problems. Each park web page here provides highlights of network projects and what we're learning.

Although many of the parks in the MIDN were established for cultural and historical preservation, they harbor and protect important land and water habitats. Located within a rapidly urbanizing landscape, many park natural resources are with land-use change, habitat fragmentation, invasive plants, increasing numbers of deer, air and water quality problems, and changing climate and weather patterns.

Good park management decisions begin with good information. The information collected by the network helps parks make sound, science-based natural resource decisions that help us all preserve these special places.
