Archeological Site Etiquette
The unique stone towers and other buildings at Hovenweep are extremely fragile. Help preserve them:
- Remain on marked trails. Entering structures, canyon interiors, and even stepping over chain barriers are considered entering a site and against park regulation.
- Do not climb, sit or stand on any rock walls.
- Do not touch or disturb any artifacts, including pottery sherds, arrow points or rock art. Once removed from context, the story they can tell is gone forever.

Bicycles
Bicycles are not allowed on any park trails. Bicycles are allowed on all public roads within the park.
Camping
Camping is only allowed inside designated campsites. Camping is not allowed in the backcountry or along any park road or trail. Read more about camping.
Firearms
Using firearms is prohibited in the park. However, people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws may legally possess firearms in this park. You must understand and comply with all applicable state, local, and federal firearms laws before entering this park. Read more about firearms regulations in national parks.
Park Trails Close
Trails are open sunrise to sunset. The visitor center parking lot and only the paved sidewalk leading from the visitor center to the overlook are open to visitors after sunset. Read more about operating hours and seasons.
Pets
Pets are allowed on park trails and in the campground. All pets must be on a leash 6 feet or shorter at all times. Pets (and people) must stay on trails at all times. Owners must pick up after their pets. Read more about pets.
Unmanned Aircraft (Drones)
