The National Park Service (NPS) is proposing to increase the entrance fee at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site and Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site to support projects that benefit visitors and protect park resources. The increased fee revenue will allow the parks to address preservation needs of the homes, which is critical to ensuring the continued enjoyment and long-term preservation of these significant sites. Human Rights (UDHR), Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site and Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site, along with the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum will host a Human Rights Day Expo on Dec. 10, 2023. Events will begin at 10 a.m. at the Henry A. Wallace Center in Hyde Park. After issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) in February, 2023 to lease, operate, and maintain the Hyde Park Drive-In Movie Theatre, the National Park Service has received valuable feedback and suggestions from interested applicants. To increase the competiveness of the opportunity, and to reduce the restrictions initially outlined in the RFP, the National Park Service has closed the RFP and will re-announce a revised Request later this summer. On June 8, the community of Hyde Park will be hosting the launch of a new Eleanor Roosevelt quarter. As part of the U.S. Mint’s American Women Quarters Program, the new quarter celebrates the life and legacy of Eleanor as a first lady, author, civil liberties advocate, and chairperson of the United Nations Human Rights commission. Most forests in eastern United States national parks are at risk due to browsing by overabundant white-tailed deer and crowding by invasive plants, according to a National Park Service (NPS) study published in the journal Ecological Applications.  The National Park Service is seeking proposals from interested parties to lease the Hyde Park Drive-In Movie Theatre. on the USS ROOSEVELT, Pictures with Santa.  A former National Park Service (NPS) employee recently bequeathed a generous financial donation to two national parks in Hyde Park, New York. The donation came from the trust of Mr. Donald E. Borquist, a long time community member of Hyde Park, and a previous NPS Employee. Borquist's gift will be divided evenly between the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site and Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. The National Park Service, Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation will co-host this year’s National Day of Remembrance with live virtual events from February 18-20. The commemoration marks 80 years since President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s signing of Executive Order 9066, which led to the forced removal and incarceration of more than 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II. The commemoration was made in coordination with Friends of Minidoka, Japanese American Citizens League, and the Japanese American National Museum.
