As Grand Teton National Park approaches its centennial in 2029, parkwide construction projects are improving roads, trails, and visitor facilities to support continued access and stewardship for generations to come. Current Construction Areas
Anticipated disruptions for September are listed below. For road information and updates check the road status page and alerts and conditions page.
Menor's Ferry Road - Closed to all use on weekdays.
Moose-Wilson Road (between Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve & Moose) - Closed starting Tuesday, September 8 to all vehicles and cyclists.
Teton Park Road Roundabout at Moose Entrance Station - Delay of 20 minutes, not including entrance station wait time.
North Park Road - Open.Delay of 15 minutes 6 am-9 pm / Delay of up to one hour 9 pm-6 am.

North Park Road
Project Details: Teton Park Road will undergo structural improvements between Leeks Marina and Lizard Creek Campground to help correct pavement buckling and erosion. The section of road is about 7 miles north of Colter Bay and 11.5 miles south of Yellowstone.
Timeframe: August 2026
Type of Impact: Delay
Ancticipated Summer 2026 Schedule
Day: Delay of 15 minutes, 6 a.m.-9 p.m.
Night: Delay of up to one hour, 9 p.m.-6 a.m.
Traffic will be controlled with a temporary stop light and alternating one lane of travel.

Project Update
Construction is underway on the North Park Road between Lizard Creek Campground and Leeks Marina with 15-minute daytime delays and 1-hour nightime delays for all traffic.
Turnouts near the construction site are closed to allow for material storage and equipment staging. Alternative scenic areas include Lakeview Picnic Area and Arizona Island Picnic Area.

Moose-Wilson Road Phase II
Project Details: Moose-Wilson Road will be re-aligned north of Sawmill Ponds to meet the new Teton Park Roundabout. Portions will be closed to facilitate safe transport of equipment and materials to Death Canyon Road.

May 1 – June 19: Closure between Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Moose.
June 20– September 7: Delay of 45 minutes or longer with temporary closures possible between Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Moose.
September 8 – November 15: Closure between Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Moose.

Death Canyon Road & Trailhead
Project Details: Death Canyon Trailhead will be relocated about one mile from its current location. The trailhead will feature restrooms, hiker staging area, and about ninety paved parking spots. Death Canyon Road will be paved, shortened one mile, and end at the new trailhead. The decommissioned portion of road will be turned into an extension of the Valley Trail for access to Phelps Lake Overlook and Death Canyon. Hikes into Death Canyon and beyond will be longer as a result.
Timeframe: May 2026 – June 2027
Type of Impact: Closure
Notes: Access to Phelps Lake, Death Canyon, and destinations beyond will still be possible from alternative trailheads, including Granite Canyon and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Parking will be limited at the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve, with long wait times anticipated.

Project Update
Construction of the new Death Canyon Trailhead continues with the installation of the first vault toilets.
The old Death Canyon Trailhead remains closed to all traffic, including pedestrians. Access to backcountry destinations is possible at Granite Canyon Trailhead or Laurance S. Rockfeller Preserve. Parking is limited.

Teton Park Road Roundabout
Project Details: Teton Park Road will feature a new roundabout just north of the Moose Entrance Station at the current intersection of Menor’s Ferry Road and the Teton Park Road, enabling northbound Moose-Wilson Road traffic to transition seamlessly to the Teton Park Road without passing through another entrance station.
Timeframe: May 2026 – June 2027

May 1 – November 15: Delay of 20 mins, not including entrance station wait time.

Project Update
Teton Park Road Roundabout at Moose Entrance Station is underway, with delays of up to 20 minutes expected. Construction equipment can be seen alongside the Teton Park Road.
Weekday closures of the Menor's Ferry Road, which provides access to the Menor's Ferry Historic District and Chapel of the Transfiguration, are in place. Parking for these destinations on weekends is reduced due to construction staging and material storage.

Find answers to commonly asked questions about the construction taking place this summer.
Construction takes place during the warmest months of the year, as it is otherwise impossible to carry out work due to signifficant snow fall, sub-zero temperatures, and other factors during winter months which limit site access, endanger worker safety, and make material transport difficult.
Construction projects taking place this summer are largely related to one another. For example, three seperate work sites in the southern region of the park are all a part of the Moose-Wilson Rd. construction. Improvement projects are being carried out ahead of Grand Teton's centennial in 2029 in an effort to ensure public access while protecting important resources during this landmark year - and for the next 100 years.
Construction timelines and schedules have been made to maximize the warm weather, attempting to complete as much work as possible to ensure project completion and redcued visitor impacts in future seasons.
