Visitor Center and Bookstores

Great Falls has a Visitor Center and Bookstore, that is currently closed for repairs. Visit Great Falls' Mobile Visitor Center, located at Overlook 3, to recieve information and chat with a ranger!

Overlooks for the Falls

Great Falls Park offer three overlooks to enjoy different perspectives of the spetacular waterfall! All three overlooks are located off of the Patowmack Canal Trail, within about a 10 minute walk of the visitor center.

Overlook 1:

Overlook 1 is the most difficult overlook to access the views. It requires stepping over large boulders, mild scrambling up rocks, and is extremely wet when slick. Use extreme caution when recreating at this site. Overlook 1 provides the closest access to the falls, and allows visitors to appreciate the power of the Potomac river.

Overlook 2:

Overlook 2 is accessible by ramp and stairs. The wooden platform allows for easy access to the specaticular views. Most of the waterfall can be seen from this overlook.

Overlook 3:

Overlook 3 is easily accessible, with no need for ramps or stairs. Two flat platforms allow visitors to admire the views of the Great Falls from the most head on perspecitive. Have questions or comments while recreating here? No worries, Great Falls Rangers regurally staff the mobile visitor center right next to Overlook 3.

 

Trekking the Trails
