Current Fire Information

 

Muir Woods closed for defensible space work on November 19-20, 2024:

Defensible space work is taking place to reduce the potential for serious impacts from wildfire. Muir Woods will be closed Tuesday, November 19 and Wednesday, November 20, and will reopen for normal operating hours on Thursday, November 21.

Wildfires

There are no fires burning in Golden Gate National Recreation Area at this time.

Prescribed Fires

There are no prescribed fires in progress at this time. For e-mail notification when burn days are scheduled, call 415-464-5133.

Fires Outside the Park

Depending on the current fire danger, the following types of heat sources will be permitted (YES) or prohibited (NO):

Beach Fire and Campfire Regulations

Under Extreme fire danger conditions:

• Smoking is banned on all park trails and back country areas of the park.
• Smoking is banned entirely at Muir Woods National Monument

At all times, regardless of current fire danger:

1. Ground fires are not permitted
2. Never leave a fire unattended
3. Extinguish all fires with water prior to departure
4. Firewood gathering is prohibited
5. The possession or discharge of fireworks is prohibited
6. Report all wildfires immediately
7. Ask a park ranger for further information
