"How can lessons from the past shape our decisions for the future?"

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the park is hosting an art contest for local fourth grade classes. This art contest is in conjunction with a classroom lesson highlighting the different periods of Golden Gate’s history. Using the essential question, "How can lessons from the past shape our decisions for the future?”, students will learn about the park’s rich and complex history. The artwork will be an opportunity for students to use their knowledge from the lesson plan and showcase their vision for the next 50 years.

1st Place - Gordon J. Lau Elementary

1st Place- Poster A-Gordon J Lau Elementary_Page_1

Ms. Szeto's 4th Grade Class:

"Enjoy Nature, Breathe Air, Love Earth!"

We chose to include 5 words that are important to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Stewardship, preservation, inspiration, appreciation, and education. We felt that education was the most important. That is why Education fills in the largest circle of the animal pawprint. The Golden Gate Bridge represents the San Francisco Bay Area and a symbol of the Golden State. The Park Ranger was important, so we included her to keep the park safe.

2nd Place- Poster C-Beach Elementary

2nd Place - Beach Elementary

"Our poster includes elements of both the natural beauty of the area (the animals, trees, fog, and more), but also attractions that draw people from all around the world to visit the area. We want to show that everyone is welcome regardless of color, background, gender, etc. We hope that everyone feels free to be who they want to be and enjoy all that the park has to offer."

3rd Place- Poster B- Claire Lilienthal Elementary

3rd Place - Claire Lilienthal Elementary

"In 50 years, the economy grows and more fund money is putting into making GGNRA a more sustainable and safe place. If we had better technology, it could cease smoke and pollution. It could also stop species of animals that are dying. In the result, GGNRA will become a larger and nicer park!!!"
