Internship Opportunities in Glacier National Park

2025 Community Volunteer Ambassador

The CVA will be involved in all aspects of managing Glacier’s volunteer program, with an emphasis on helping to plan Glacier's transfer onto volunteer.gov, which is an online platform used across the NPS to manage volunteer paperwork and recruitment. They will help to support individual adult and youth volunteers that are directly supervised by other staff who oversee specific programs such as our Citizen Science, Camp Hosts, Wilderness Patrol, and Apgar Visitor Center Volunteer Programs. The selected individual will regularly engage youth and seniors in their volunteer and education program duties. They will assist with community outreach efforts, such as helping facilitate a park booth at the Northwest Montana Fair and two annual GNP Adopt-a-Highway clean-up events. Glacier's CVA will also assist with the park's curriculum-based education programming. During the school year, when there are not many volunteer groups to assist with, the CVA will spend some of their time working with the education team to connect with students from across the country, both virtually and in person. This includes leading field trips, conducting classroom visits, presenting distance learning programs, and participating in community outreach. 2025 Community and Youth Outreach Internship

The CYO Intern will be involved in all aspects of managing Glacier’s volunteer program, with an emphasis on helping facilitate both our adult and youth service groups. They will help to support individual adult and youth volunteers that are directly supervised by other staff overseeing specific programs such as our Citizen Science, Camp Hosts, Wilderness Patrol, and Apgar Visitor Center Volunteer Programs. The selected individual will regularly engage youth and seniors in their volunteer and education program duties. Additionally, they assist with community outreach efforts, such as helping facilitate a park booth at the Northwest Montana Fair and coordinating two annual GNP Adopt-a-Highway clean-up events. This position will start on April 21st, 2025 and run through October 17th, 2025. There is some flexibility in the start and end dates (up to 2 weeks of wiggle room for the start and ends dates). Research Learning Center Internships
The Crown of the Continent Research Learning Center (CCRLC) does not offer internships on a regular basis, but does work with other park divisions and park partners to provide some opportunities during certain years. In the past, the Research Learning Center has had interns working on sustainability issues, citizen science, and science communication. These positions are typically unpaid, but at times paid internships do occur. In addition, housing is often provided free of charge. When available, internships will be posted on this page. Park Ranger Intern Program
Glacier National Park will be looking to hire two Park Ranger Interns, one for the winter season (January-April), and one for the summer season (May-August). These positions offer a chance to learn about preserving wilderness character, protecting park resources, and promoting visitor safety in Glacier's recommended wilderness and backcountry. The Park Ranger interns work with wilderness and field rangers to contact and educate the public, monitor resource impacts, maintain wilderness campsites, and assist with emergency operations such as Search and Rescue and Emergency Medical Services. These positions also assist park staff with wildlife management. These internship opportunities will be posted for the upcoming season through Pathways on USAJobs.gov.
