Traveling Trunks and Traveling Map

Traveling Trunks

Our “Nation at War” Traveling Trunks, shipped to your school for 2-3 weeks, each contain a number of independent learning stations, including Life of a Soldier, Women of the War, Civil War Medical Care, and Lincoln at Gettysburg. Trunk materials and curriculum is recommended for students in Grades 4 through 10.

Multiple requests exceeding our number of trunks for the same time frame will be drawn from a random lottery. There are six circulating trunks and just one map so time frames are limited. Thanks to our partner, the Gettysburg Foundation, there is no fee for the trunks nor for the shipping costs to and from your school. The trunk will arrive at your school on a Monday and must be shipped back to the park no later than the return date (typically a Friday), as other schools will be waiting for the trunk!

How do you reserve one of our trunks? That depends on where you live.

Schools Across the Region and the Country:

Trunks are available for two-week time frames (or longer) throughout the school year. If interested in scheduling a trunk for your school, please email us and, if a Trunk is available, a confirmation will be mailed to you as soon as possible.

Schools/Organizations Within Driving Distance of Gettysburg:

You can reserve and pick up one of our Traveling Trunks here at the park.

Traveling Map

The “Gettysburg Battlefield in a Box” traveling map can be shipped to your school, with an accompanying video link and teacher’s guide for everything you need to teach the campaign and battle of Gettysburg interactively. The Traveling Map, which consists of ropes to represent the road network in and around Gettysburg and flower pots to represent the many hills, can be used right in the middle of your classroom floor, or from a common room for the whole grade or school. Map materials and curriculum is recommended for students in grades 4 through 12 (and beyond).

Multiple requests for the same time frame will be drawn from a random lottery. Thanks to our partner, the Gettysburg Foundation, there is no fee for the map nor for the shipping costs to and from your school. The map kit will arrive at your school on a Monday and must be shipped back to the park no later than the return date (typically a Friday), as other schools will be waiting for it!
