Kuhn Grain Elevator

This grain elevator was located at First and Dubois Streets in Vincennes between the river and the railroad.

The United States was growing at a rapid pace and had a growing population. The question was simple, how do you feed this growing population?

This territory became important as America's breadbasket, growing tons of grain. The old Northwest Territory became a part of the United States after Clark's capture of the British outposts in this region.

The elevator was wired for demolition and the button sent to President Calvin Coolidge in Washington D.C. Coolidge did his part, but the building did not detonate. Eventually, fire was set to the building to clear the way for the memorial.
