Curator's Corner: Year of the Lion
February 2018 marks 200 years since Frederick Douglass was born. When historians located the ledger that proved the month and year of his birth, it brought us closer to knowing more about the man who has become such a remarkable icon. After three autobiographies, over 160 photographs, and a historic house museum, there is more to learn about the Honorable Frederick Douglass.
Join the National Park Service during the "Year of the Lion" as we honor Douglass's life, his connection to the community, and his commitment to social justice.
This digital exhibition will take a closer look at Frederick Douglass's life and legacy through the historic documents, artifacts, images, and material culture that filled his world. Follow us as we trace the complex history of Frederick Douglass and celebrate his 77 years of life. Expect a video and blog post each month with a featured object from our collection.
Until next time!
