One National Park, Two Forts in Charleston HarborVisitors travel to Fort Sumter, located at the entrance of Charleston Harbor, on ferries operated by Fort Sumter Tours. These ferries leave from two locations: Fort Sumter Visitor Center in downtown Charleston and Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant. There is a fee for riding the ferry. Private vessels may not dock at Fort Sumter. Departure Locations for Fort Sumter FerriesFort Sumter Visitor Center, downtown Charleston: Visitors can find parking in a City of Charleston parking garage (fees apply) at 24 Calhoun Street, just steps away from the entrance to Liberty Square. There is a seven-foot height restriction for the garage. Public transportation is also available via the Charleston Area Regional Transit Authority (CARTA). Driving to Fort MoultrieFort Moultrie is is accessible by car, and there is parking at the visitor center. There is limited bus, RV, and large vehicle parking.
