[RG 94, entry 297, 5397 ACP 1883 Nolan - Correspondence related to transporting personal effects after death.] War Department Adjutant General’s Office January 2, 1884 It is known unofficially, that Major Nolan intended, had he lived long enough to retire, to make his home at San Antonio, the residence of his second wife. He entered the Army soon after coming to America, and never had a home outside of the Army, but he bought property at San Antonio with a view to making that his home. The new regulation allows transportation of effects of an officer who dies while on duty to his home as shown by records of A.G.O. Maj. Nolan left his post Oct. 16 ’83 on leave of absence for 7 days, and died at expiration of 9 days (Oct. 25) without having returned to his station. ….. R.E. Drum, Adjutant General |
