Child Living History Interpreter

Child volunteers, when accompanied by a parent or guardian, may portray a child. Child interpretive volunteers will take part in the park's living history program, portraying a dependent child of an officer, soldier, laundress, or civilian. They should be involved in activities typical of life at Fort Larned for a child in the post-Civil War period. The position requires wearing period correct clothing and working in adverse weather conditions, such as excessive heat or cold. Depending on their age, they should have a basic understanding of what Fort Larned is and was.

Child volunteers will be considered on a case-by-case basis, taking into account age, ability, interest and health of the child. Supervision of child volunteers will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. Smaller children generally cannot be accepted if neither parent will be volunteering with them. Older children may be accepted if they and their parents fully understand the VIP agreement, and if the arrangement is agreeable to the park.
