While you can drive to either end, there is not a paved road down the length of Fire Island. Getting from one point to another, even a few miles apart, can be complicated.

 

Plan Ahead for Travel to Fire Island

Fire Island National Seashore is a complex and sometimes perplexing place to visit or live. Because of the logistical complications, an extra measure of planning may prove valuable in making the most of your visit to Fire Island National Seashore or to the communities within its designated boundaries.

You should be aware that you cannot drive from one end of Fire Island to the other, although some digital maps and GPS programs indicate that such a route exists!
