Sassafras (Sassafras albidum) is one of the most common trees of the Sunken Forest. The trunk often becomes very twisty and turns reddish brown as it matures.
Sassafras roots have been used to make a tea, and some say the original "root beer" came from this tree. The leaves of the sassafras are particularly interesting. If you look closely, you'll notice they come in at least three varieties: one that looks like a mitten, one that has three prongs and one that looks like a "normal" leaf.
