Current Operations at El Morro National Monument

Important Trail Information:
All park trails originate from the visitor center. If you wish to walk the Inscription Loop Trail, arrive no later than 4:00 pm. If you plan to hike the Headland Trail, you must start the trail no later than 3:00 pm to give yourself enough time to complete this longer, more strenuous hike before closing time. You must be off the trails by the time the visitor center parking lot closes at 5:00 pm. We are on Mountain Time. Please note, because El Morro protects and preserves culturally sensitive resources, hiking the park trails when the monument is closed is not permitted.

Summer Hours are currently in effect (May 24, 2026 - October 17, 2026):

Open 7 days/week from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Mountain Time.

Winter Hours (October 18, 2026 - May 27, 2027)

Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Open 5 days/week, Thursday - Monday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Mountain Time.

IMPORTANT TRAIL INFORMATION:

Admittance to the Headland Trail ends at 3:00 pm. Admittance to the Inscription Loop Trail ends at 4:00 pm. Please plan to arrive early enough to complete your hike before the visitor center parking lot closes at 5:00 pm. Hiking park trails after hours is not permitted.
