Visitor Center Area and Trails

Visual Impairments

  • A Braille copy of the El Morro brochure and a large print Inscription Rock Trail guide are available on request at the El Morro Visitor Center front desk.
  • The park film shown in the Visitor Center is audio described and available during operating hours.

Physical/Mobility Needs

  • El Morro National Monument Visitor Center, museum, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Automatic doors allow entrance to the Visitor Center. Restroom doors require manual entrance. No family restroom is available.
  • The Inscription Rock Trail to Marker 16 (making it a 0.5 mile loop) is wheelchair accessible. This paved loop has one consistently climbing hill to the Pool overlook and informational waysides, with a moderately steep descent to the Pool itself. This portion of the trail is generally 75” wide. The trail beyond Marker 23 narrows and includes stairs and steep switchbacks.
  • The Headland Trail includes climbing 132 stairs or consistent switchbacks and an unpaved and uneven trail across bumpy sandstone. This trail is not wheelchair accessible.
  • The campground has one designated accessible site, campsite #5. Two vault toilets are accessed via a paved sidewalk.

Deafness or Hard of Hearing

  • The 14-minute park film is captioned in English. Printed orientation materials is available at the Visitor Center front desk, and an Inscription Rock trail guide is available for loan.

Service Animals

  • Service animals are allowed in the El Morro Visitor Center.
