Getting Around

Visit Garden Key and Fort Jefferson

The ferry and seaplane bring visitors to Garden Key, where Fort Jefferson is located. These services do not provide transportation to other areas of the park. Due to travel time and limited schedules, ferry and seaplane day visitors generally do not have time to visit Loggerhead Key.

Visiting Other Areas of the Park

Visitors who bring their own boat have the most flexibility to explore Dry Tortugas National Park beyond Garden Key. Private boaters should purchase a digital entrance pass in advance through Recreation.gov for all visitors age 16 and older. Entrance fees are not required for visitors who are only transiting through the park without stopping.

Important Reminders

Bringing your own boat provides the most opportunities to explore areas beyond Garden Key.

If you plan on camping, consider bringing a kayak or canoe to access nearby areas and snorkeling sites.

If you plan to take the Yankee Freedom Ferry to camp, coordinate all camping plans, including bringing a kayak, directly with the ferry.

Boat, kayak, and canoe rentals are not available in the park.
