Devils Postpile National Monument and Reds Meadow Road closed on November 1, 2024.

Reds Meadow Road Reconstruction Project - 2024

Reds Meadow Road is being reconstructed to greatly improve public access and traffic safety for all who visit the area, reduce likelihood of vehicular accidents and shorten emergency response times. The U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service appreciate your patience and understanding as the contractor works to reconstruct the road and stabilize the hillside over the next few years.

Reds Meadow Road, which provides access to Devils Postpile National Monument, is closed 24 hours per day for construction work from Sundays at 11 pm through Saturdays at 7 am.

This closure also affects shuttle service.

Please visit Inyo National Forest's website for more information.

Historical Public Opening and Closing Dates of Reds Meadow Road

Below are the dates that the Reds Meadow Road, the only road to access the monument, opened and closed each year since 2000. Note that the monument has been open to the public on Memorial Day weekend in only three of the past twenty years.
