 Cuyahoga Valley National Park will temporarily close the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail between Red Lock Trailhead and Brandywine Creek from Monday, March 3, to Friday, May 2, 2025.  Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) is hosting a volunteer open house on Saturday, February 8, 1-3:30 pm at Happy Days Lodge. Attendees can find out more about a variety of open opportunities. On Saturday, December 21, 2024, a Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad train derailed near Peninsula. Three cars came off the tracks but remained upright. There were no injuries reported among the 588 passengers and crew members on board. The incident is under investigation.  Cuyahoga Valley National Park will close the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail between Fitzwater Road and Pleasant Valley/Alexander Road in Valley View on weekdays from 6 am December 16, 2024 through 6 pm January 20, 2025. The trail will be open on weekends from 6 pm Fridays to 6 am Mondays. No detour is available.  The National Park Service will conduct prescribed fires at 3 locations in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, when conditions allow, between November 7 and December 31. The goal of the planned fires is to improve natural habitat. Specifically, the prescribed fires will burn invasive plant species, create good soil conditions for native seeds, and maintain habitats. The total area to be burned is approximately 182 acres.  Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) is kicking off its 50th anniversary celebration. Through the end of 2025, visitors have opportunities to commemorate the occasion by joining in enriching adventures on the trails, rails, and river, learning fascinating history from national speakers, connecting with the arts through concerts and much more.  A new National Park Service report shows that 2.9 million visitors to Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) in 2023 spent $139 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 2,136 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $225 million.  On July 12 at 6 pm, Cuyahoga Valley National Park will host the 24th U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón for a special event. Seven national parks, including Cuyahoga Valley, were selected by Limón to be part of her signature project “You are Here: Poetry in Parks.” In each park, a picnic table transformed into a work of public art will be unveiled.  Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) will close the Lock 29 parking lot and river access in Peninsula June 24 to December 1, 2024, while a contractor completes riverbank stabilization work. Parking will be available at other nearby locations and visitors will still have access to the Towpath Trail and amenities in the Village of Peninsula.  Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) hosted leadership of Dartmoor National Park in the United Kingdom June 4-8. The highlight of the week was a signing ceremony on June 6 for an international Sister Park arrangement.
