Air Quality

The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a yardstick used by the Environmental Protection Agency to measure air quality and communicate health advisories. Learn more about the AQI here.

Most of the year, Crater Lake National Park enjoys outstanding air quality. In summer and fall, however, air quality can be adversely affected by smoke from local or regional wildfires. Smoke can limit views of the lake and pose serious health concerns, especially for sensitive groups.

The Graphs Below

The following graphs depict the Air Quality Index (AQI) for the past 7 days at Park Headquarters (6450 ft, 1966 m elevation), Mazama Village (6000 ft, 1829 m elevation) and Rim Village (7100, 2164 m elevation). The bars furthest to the right show the latest readings, updated once per hour. View additional readings at AirNow.gov.

NOTE: Sometimes lightning strikes and power outages will delay or stop data from displaying, especially during winter. Data will reappear and update once the system is reset in a few days (or months during winter).
