Most of the year, Crater Lake National Park enjoys outstanding air quality. In summer and fall, however, air quality can be adversely affected by smoke from local or regional wildfires. Smoke can limit views of the lake and pose serious health concerns, especially for sensitive groups. The Graphs BelowThe following graphs depict the Air Quality Index (AQI) for the past 7 days at Park Headquarters (6450 ft, 1966 m elevation) and Mazama Village (6000 ft, 1829 m elevation). The bars furthest to the right show the latest readings, updated once per hour. View additional readings at AirNow.gov.The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality also maintains an Air Quality Monitoring Station at Rim Village (7100, 2164 m elevation) during the summer months. The Air Quality Index for this and other Oregon stations can be found on the Oregon DEQ Website. NOTE: Sometimes lightning strikes and power outages will delay or stop data from displaying, especially during winter. Data will reappear and update once the system is reset in a few days (or months during winter).
