Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument Announces Temporary Visitor Hours

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The historic home and museum at Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument will be temporarily closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, starting July 1, 2024.
 
“This temporary closure will help park staff continue to support the community at special events and weekend programing,” stated acting Superintendent Andy Danneker.
 
The home and museum will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. The museum includes exhibits on the life and legacy of Brigadier General Charles Young, the third African American graduate of West Point and the highest-ranking African American officer in the U.S. Army until his death in 1922, and the Buffalo Soldiers from 1866 through the Korean War.
 
Visitors can also view a 10-minute interpretive film, speak with park staff, and shop at the monument’s bookstore.
 
Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument is the nation’s 401st National Park Service site. The park was established in 2013 to preserve more than 60 acres of what was once the home of Gen. Young and his family and to tell the story of the Buffalo Soldiers, African Americans who served in segregated U.S. Army units from 1866 through the Korean War.
