Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historic Park offers field trip and in-classroom opportunities for students that align with Virginia and West Virginia Standards of Learning. More information on each program type available below.

Field Trips 

How to Request a Field trip

Field Trips take place at the Belle Grove Plantation Manor, and are scheduled with our park partner Belle Grove.

Field Trips are approximately 90 minutes long and includes four interactive learning experiences throughout the tour of the Manor House. Students will learn about early settlement in the Shenandoah Valley in the early 1700s, through pre-Civil War era. Tour aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning and West Viriginia Instructional Goals and Objectives.
Belle Grove does not operate tours from December 31 until early Spring.

Cost

Belle Grove is a self-supporting non-profit, operated through admissions.
$30 non-refundable deposit to reserve a tour date
Students: $6, Teachers and Chaperones: $9
Belle Grove requires one teacher or chaperone for every 10 students.
If cost is a barrier to your classroom, please ask in your field trip request if there is funding available.

Classroom Programs

Classroom programs are FREE, Park Rangers come to your classroom and facilitate the program of your choosing that best suits your students. Program options are listed below. 

Classroom programs are focused on fourth and fifth grade students. Explore history using geography, landscapes, and analyzing sources including artifacts and primary and secondary sources.

    Students will learn about people and events of the Civil War in the Shenandoah Valley. Recommended as a pre-program before a field trip.

    Be a Historian

    An inquiry-based activity in which students will explore the contents of a haversack and examine photographs for primary source analysis.
