SAN DIEGO – Cabrillo National Monument invites the public to join Whale Watch Weekend and Intertidal Life Festival on Saturday, Jan. 11, and Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025.
The festival, which began in 1988 as Whale Watch Weekend, celebrates the annual migration of Pacific gray whales past Point Loma and highlights the rich intertidal life in the park's tidepool areas. Cabrillo National Monument will be closed to the public on Thursday, November 28th, and Wednesday, December 25th, in observance of the holidays. During these closures, all park facilities, buildings, and access to park grounds will not be available.  SAN FRANCISCO - The National Park Service (NPS) has selected Chris Rodriguez as superintendent of Cabrillo National Monument. He will begin his new role April 21. Due to Memorial Day services on the adjacent Naval base, public access to Cabrillo National Monument will be changed on May 29th, 2023, to 1pm - 8pm. Report shows visitor spending supports 564 jobs in San Diego economy
San Diego, CA – A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 684,000 visitors to Cabrillo National Monument in 2021 spent $44.5 million in San Diego communities near the park – one of many gateway communities in proximity to a national park site. That spending supported 564 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $62.5 million.  San Diego, CA – Cabrillo National Monument is offering special guided walks in June and July, including tours in American Sign Language (ASL). Cabrillo National Monument will celebrate National Park Week with a Junior Ranger Day event on Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Plein air painting by local artists April 11 – May 10. Cabrillo National Monument Superintendent Andrea Compton announced Linh Anh Cat, Ph.D. as the new Chief of Resources Management and Science of Cabrillo National Monument located in San Diego, California. Dr. Cat has been serving as the park’s Chief of Resources Management and Science since the middle of February.  The National Park Service will join the Women's Suffrage Centennial Commission and sites across the U.S. to illuminate the country in purple and gold on August 26 in celebration of 100 years of women's constitutional right to vote. San Diego, CA – Beginning Friday, July 10, Cabrillo National Monument will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in July. The tidepool area will be open on those days until 7:30 p.m. The normal operating hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the tidepool area closing at 4:30 p.m., will still be in effect Mondays through Thursdays. The exclusive extended hours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays will provide increased access for visitors to enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and San Diego during sunset.
