Common Raven (Corvus corax)

Length 24” Wingspan 53”
Long slightly hooked bill, shaggy throat, long narrow wings, wedge-shaped tail, black, seen soaring, diverse diet, raspy voice.

This black bird is commonly misidentified as an American Crow by sight; however the Common Raven makes very different calls than its corvid cousin. In fact, it makes so many different calls that scientists have placed Common Raven vocalizations in as many as 33 different categories! The most familiar raven vocalization is that of a gurgling croak that rises in pitch.
