Habitat

Conifer and mixed woods.

Diet

Seeds and insects. Nearly half of their summer diet consists of insects including beetles, grasshoppers, and spiders.

Identification

Juncos have a wide variety of differences across the country. In general, they are dark grey or brown with a pink bill and white outer tail feathers.

Behavior

Dark-eyed Juncos can often be found hopping along the ground in search of food. Search along the base of trees and shrubs and you may find them foraging for fallen seeds.

Conservation

Numbers are widespread and abundant.
