Receive a Video "Postcard"

Black Canyon and Curecanti offer a free, asynchronous distance learning program for K–12 classrooms. Through this offering, your students can connect with a ranger via a personalized video "postcard" answering their questions.

Whether you are an Earth Sciences teacher eager to have students ask about how erosion helped form impressive landscapes, conducting a social studies unit exploring the U.S., or just looking for a way to increase student engagement and curiosity–the asynchronous distance learning program is flexible and adaptable to your needs.

We work with the nonprofit Post Pigeon EDU to help facilitate this program offering. By signing up for their free program, in addition to receiving a personalized video from our Rangers, you will also receive a robust curriculum centered around K–8 learning standards.

How it Works

  1. Get Curious: After signing up on the website, educators will receive a free educational curriculum. In this curriculum students will be introduced to National Parks and the importance of environmental stewardship, in addition to learning about the flora, fauna, history, and geology of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park or Curecanti National Recreation Area.

  1. Get Connected: Educators then engage their students' curiosity through inquiry-centered activities and get student questions answered by Rangers near and far.

  1. Get Outside: After connecting with a National Park Ranger, students are then asked to investigate how they themselves can become environmental stewards in their own community and are provided with resources to help them continue learning and exploring.

Note: After questions are submitted, classrooms can expect to receive their video from a Ranger in 1–3 weeks after the submission date.
