In celebration of the National Park Service Centennial, Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area announced the winners of the second annual photography contest. An Art-in-the-Park reception was held over Labor Day weekend to announce the winners of the contest. The celebration featured refreshments and live bluegrass music by South Sycamore. 

The entrants for the Art-in-the-Park photography contest submitted photos in seven categories. The winners were announced at the September 3 event: 

  • Kentucky Landscapes – Tom Wood, McMinnville, Tennessee, with Yahoo Falls
  • Tennessee Landscapes – David Massengill, Knoxville, Tennessee, with Milky Way Over BSF
  • Artistic – Josh Bandy, Pall Mall, Tennessee, with Milk Way Over East Rim Overlook
  • Flora/Fauna – Jim Jayroe, Newbern, Tennessee, with Mountain Laurel
  • Action/Adventure – Brad Winkler, Berea, Kentucky, with First Approach to Yahoo Falls
  • Cultural – L.D. Coffey, Stearns, Kentucky, with Blue Heron
  • Youth – Emily Sharp, Jacksboro, Tennessee, with Eastern Overlook
Several photographs received honorable mention including: 
  • Sarah Dunlap, Oneida, Tennessee, with Sunbeam in Devil’s Cave
  • Dennis Bernhard, Nashville, Tennessee, with Rushing Rapids
  • Richard Yaeger, Corbin, Kentucky, with Waterfall John Muir Trail
  • Nancy Chambers, Robbins, Tennessee, with Crooked Fork in Fall Blaze
  • Peggy Yaeger, Corbin, Kentucky, with Pink Lady
  • David Matia, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, with Long Shadow Cycling at Dusk 
During the Art-in-the-Park reception, guests were able to view the photographs submitted for this year’s contest, and cast ballots for the People’s Choice category. The winner of this category was Josh Bandy, of Pall Mall, Tennessee, with Milky Way Over East Rim Overlook.  

Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas announced the kickoff for the third annual photography contest at the recent photo reception. The 2017 photo reception will be held Labor Day weekend on Saturday, September 2, 2017. The deadline for the photograph submissions will be on July 21, 2017.
