Falls Trail Virtual Tour

Let's take a hike on the Falls Trail.  It's a beautiful spring day and due to snow melt the creek is running nicely.

Painted ladies are a spring butterfly that are sometimes seen in great numbers.  Migratory, like their cousins the Monarch, these butterflies are considered to be an eruptive species.  Common sometimes and absent others.

Standing at the top of Lower Falls on a windy day is a good way to get wet.

 

With the remnant winter moisture spring plants are turning green and flourishing.

Stinging nettles are not nice to touch but are beautiful swaying in the breeze accompanied by the sounds of the creek.

 

The hike to the bottom of the Upper Falls requires hopping the creek many times.  Watch for falling rocks.

The 80 ft tall falls somehow seem shorter close up but the roar of the falls highlights the drop.

 

In the moisture rich riparian area along the creek plants like this willow are blooming in abundance.

Frijoles Creek flows from high in the Jemez Mountains over two waterfalls to add its bounty to the Rio Grande.
